Our History
On July 1st, Healey & Baker acquires George Knight's commercial real estate business and Eric van Leuven becomes managing partner of the company in Portugal. At the time, it had 6 employees nationwide. That same month, the new entity carried out its first major investment transaction: the sale of the Avenida da República 26 Building to BCP for 2.8 million contos (€14 million).

She was appointed by MBO (ING Real Estate) to advise on the assessment of a partnership with Sonae Imobiliária (today Sonae Sierra) for the conversion of the former Primeiro de Janeiro newspaper building (Rua de Santa Catarina, Porto) into a shopping center. ViaCatarina was born and the beginning of a collaboration with Sonae that continues to this day.

It is called upon to advise Parque Expo 98 on the market study for the retail component to be developed in this area of the city after the 1998 World Expo.

Acting on behalf of two funds managed by Rockspring in the acquisition of 50% of CascaiShopping, at an equivalent yield of slightly less than 10%, valuing the shopping center at 16 million contos (€80 million). With the company growing, the first office move was made to the Skandia Building, on Avenida da Liberdade.

Introduces the British Grosvenor of the Duke of Westminster to Sonae and works for it in negotiating the acquisition of a stake in Sonae Imobiliária. Sells Johnson & Johnson's industrial facilities to TVI, in Queluz de Baixo. On behalf of Virgin Megastore, it leases the Éden Building, in Restauradores. Celebrate the 5th anniversary in Portugal with a cocktail and dinner for clients on board the yacht Albacora. It then had 11 employees.

Healey & Baker and Cushman & Wakefield agree to a merger, creating one of the largest real estate consultancies in the world. The company is now called Cushman & Wakefield. It moved to the recently restored Edifício Café Lisboa, on Avenida da Liberdade, where it remains to this day.

It sells a former Firestone factory, in Alcochete, to Freeport and collaborates with the latter in the creation of the largest factory outlet center in Europe (75,000 m²), which would open in 2004. It also sells the Sintra Retail Park, the first equipment of this format in country.

Operates in the sale of 12 buildings in Quinta da Fonte to TMW and MEAG. Sells the Tetra Pak facilities, in Carnaxide, to Norfin: 14 years later, the transaction that led to the company's origins in Portugal is completed. Celebrates the 10th anniversary with a cocktail for customers and 31 employees at Palácio Belmonte.

The valuation team supports this year's two major transactions: the purchase of the Imopolis portfolio by JP Morgan and the sale of the Amorim Imobiliária portfolio to Chamartin. The celebration of 15 years in Portugal took place in the recently restored stables of the Hotel Pestana Palace, with cocktails and dinner for clients. The company's team numbered 45 people.

The merger between DTZ and Cushman & Wakefield is completed, strengthening its operations throughout the world. The company achieves the best results to date in Portugal. History has recorded its participation in more than 20 real estate investment transactions and surpassing the previous target in office leasing – 30,000 m² is its new milestone. It moves its headquarters from the 2nd to the 5th floor of the Café Lisboa Building, on Avenida da Liberdade.

In an auspicious start to the year, it stands out again with major investment operations in the first quarter, including the purchase of the Justice Campus (80,000 m²) on behalf of a fund based in Singapore, for a value of around €230 millions. A new stage is launched with the opening of an office in Porto. Celebrates 25 years with a party for customers and staff at Espaço Espelho d’Água in Belém. The company has more than 80 employees.

Participates in one of the largest transactions by representing Teixeira Duarte in the process of selling Lagoas Park to Kildare Partners for €375 million. Collaborates in the process of acquiring the Feira Popular land at public auction by Fidelidade, in the largest real estate development transaction of the year (€273 million). In a new record year for the absorption of offices in Lisbon (200 thousand m²), the highlight is the forward purchase sale of the new Ageas headquarters (17,400 m²), on behalf of the Martinhal group.

In a historic year for real estate investment (€3,200 million), it continues to be noticed in some of the most relevant investment transactions in the market in the office, retail and urban development and rehabilitation sectors. It transacts 41 buildings, equivalent to a global value of over €765 million. In property management, the mandates of two of the most emblematic office buildings in Lisbon begin: Torre Oriente and Fontes Pereira de Melo 41.
